sound like you may obtain a new Developer's Guide ;-).
The current Developer's Guide talks still about /applicat.rdb/.

sound like you have an old DevelopersGuide ;-)
What you registered formerly in the applicat.rdb you could now
register in the types.rdb ... BUT there is a more convenient way to
register your component in the office by using pkgck (OOo1.1.x) or
unopkg (OOo1.9.x).
