indeed, I was a little cryptic. Let me explain. I'm using the following:
- OpenOffice.org 2.0.x (I'm not sure about the release, I did not
install by myself)
- oood from
http://udk.openoffice.org/python/python-bridge.html#known_pyuno_extensions
-xvfb-run from debian.
some of us experienced soem kind of these problems
digging in the archive, you'll find some threads
i wrote a new async engine based on xml-rpc and using pyuno
it's free and you may have a look

it is for conversion unsing OOo but may be adapted by creating a new
