But you are not the target audience. Most people are primarily looking for 
the download link, secondly help/contact/community/documentation/etc, and 
only *then* other things like newsletters, why we do this, etc.

The About section is visible. It can be expanded by default, that's just 
JS. But it must *not* have a more visible location than things like 
download, mailing lists, etc.

This is not about what you want to tell the user. This is about what the 
user is looking for.

The #1 priority is that the website *meet* the *user's* *needs*.
Everything else takes a second place to that.

The "About" section should be on the website, and visible enough that 
people looking for that can find it. But its prevalence has to be in 
proportion to how much people want to see that versus the other elements 
of the page.
