The point I'm making is about how you view the site and its purpose. The
current OOo website suffers greatly from the pov of "what do I want to
tell the user?" instead of "what is the user asking me?". And this has a
significant, negative effect on usability. This was the motivation behind
laying out the primary things the website is supposed to accomplish.
At the risk of sounding like Daniel's echo :-)

And an echo here.

People come to the web site to learn what OOo is and why they might want to download it. So far as I can see, that means download links, linguistic links, and and product information links. Media attention if you must.

Every other menu -- help, search, general links, coming events, and "for developers" is either redundant (we have tabs across the top, remember, or should not be on the front page at all. Just have one link to "information in depth".
