I learned usability from a book, so I can't just show it to you. Worse yet, it's in Canada. The current mockup from Matthew demonstrates many of the principles that I've been describing. Have you followed the discussion? It was very thorough, and I'd rather not repeat everything. But we started off by prioritizing our target audiences and what they need, and proceeded to organize the layout so that the items that most visitors want would also be the ones where the eye notices first. I sent a few, lengthy emails describing these decisions one item at a time.
