Support is a really bad name for what's behind that tab. Documentation is not tech support. And the things under Resources are not just tech support. I agree that we want to keep mailing lists and the like directly on the front page. Doing so is "obvious" when you consider the homepage priorities: (#1) Obtain the software (download and CDs). (#2) Get support, read documentation, talk to people, join a list, etc. (#3) Learn about the project, why we do this, product comparisons, etc. So, Mailing lists, Web forums, documentation and NLC are our highest priority after the download box. They must be correspondingly prominent. > The placement of coming events (why not just "Events"?) and Media > attention is good, but Media Attention seems to me to be in competition > with "media kit"... I'm cool with "Events". I think "Media Kit" is a good name, it's hard to confuse with articles. "Media Attention" might be confusable, but I can't think of anything better. > As to the menu idea I suggested before: how about a mouseover on > Contribute? If you can do that, and keep the left navbar having only a small number of links, I say sure (but don't call it "Support" please). I don't like the Support page anyways. How about this: 1) Design the left navbar like so: <SomeTitle> * Mailing lists. * Web Forums. * Documentation. * Commercial support. 2) Add a "Books" section to the Documentation project page. Doing this would eliminate most of the unimportant links from the Support page, and still keep most of the good ones. > Agreed: moving away from 3 column is a *good* idea. :-) > >I don't know how to make the CommingEvents and MediaAttention > >collapse/uncollapse, but you get the idea. > > But I think it's actually better not to have collapsibles. I think it's become non-dominant enough that I don't have any problems having it there. It's not taking away from higher priority items.
