These values are very deceiving. They treat all locations on the page as if they were equal. Positions higher up are worth more, things far down are less visible (often even below the location of the screen). On an initial load, this is what I see: Download panel: 30% Internal links: 23% External links: 8% Announcements: 6% Sun/Collabnet small print: 0% The rest taken up by empty space. And even *this* analysis is very deceitful. For example, it makes it look like announcements is less prominent than external links, whereas in reality, announcements has a more prominent location. Furthermore, this mockup assumes only two announcements. Measuring space ignores important things like screen location, colours, and the like. I'm sorry, but this is not a meaningful method of analysis. And I disagree with your conclusions. > We are making the assumption that visitors are ready to start a 70-80Mb > download immediately with no further persuasion, and they need large > visual clues to help them to do so. There is nothing to tell visitors > *what* OOo is, or *who* OOo are. Wrong and wrong. * "About Us" and "About the Product" have prominent locations. * Whe have a large and visible array of links right above the Download box for people to learn more about each component of OOo. * Downloading *is* the most important objective of the home page. And the section is prominent because that's the first priority. I suggest reading this article: Title "Are Users Stupid?" http://www.useit.com/alertbox/20010204.html This page really was very carefully laid out to correspond to the priorities that were posted and discussed at length.
