* it seems a bit wide, and
* yes, it does seem a bit late but I'll leave it Maarten to deal with as he pleases. I, too, feel it's not substantially "better". I'm not saying it's bad, just not better.

Hi,

As I'm currently involved in creating the new webdesign and release dates are getting moved forward as time goes, there could be an opportunity of incorporating this design. I must say I like it too, but trying to be objective; I don't think it's much better than my own original design (but that's always tricky to say ;) )... let others deside on this.

The problem however may still very well be time constraints, as you already guessed... OOo 2.0 is going to be released some day an then the new site should be up and running (and tested). The current design still lacks some elements which are important, and someone will start to complain about it; like to ability to change some image to attrack attention, ability to add articles, and the new buttons that have a direct link to a 'new OOo users'-page... and this is already a start of a list that might (read: will) need adjustment of the current design.

The design by Boyd is relatively clear now, but when items are added the same problem might (think we could read: will) occur as currently with the state of http://sc40.sfo.collab.net ... it's experimenting with the right balance, and it's a much time consuming effort, trying to get all wishes all sorted out without creating conflicts in design.

Therefore I would again ask you (I mean here all at the website-dev list) for comments instead of pushing new -from scratch- design proposals every two weeks, as it is not progressing. Comment on usability, design, colours, whatever, proposals for embedding accesskeys... they all welcome.

It's for me difficult to try to be objective on this, as I'm currently the lead designer at sc40, so others will need to deside on this... If everyone is enthousiastic as previous replys to this e-mail and Emily Boyd, or someone else, is willing to implement it (someone who's having much time...) ... I could surely happily live with such HP design for OOo! But I read it as advice, as I thought I would have been ready with the work already... :(

Hi all,

Sorry to do this, but I'll point this out now in case it's useful:

http://www.tinysofa.com/design/openoffice_proposal.png

Received this today from Emily Boyd, she's one of the people who designed the new look PostgreSQL website (www.postgresql.org).

A while ago I emailed Emily and Omar Kilani (they generally work as a team) to ask if they'd be interested in an updated design for the OOo website, pointed them to the sc40 mailing list and so on.

Wasn't sure if they'd have time, etc.

Got the above URL back from them today, but I'm unsure how it fits in with the time constraints now, given the vote that was done the CC or project leads or similar a while ago (I haven't checked out the result yet).

Regards and best wishes,

Justin Clift
