I think we should add to the ToDo a script repository where we could get Javascript and DHTML code to use across the site. I am looking for example for text and image randomizer and some effects (moderated effects).

Okay... You know of course that OOo site supports javascript and it is used heavily by quite a few pages? These include the download pages.

Yes I know, however I asked for a repository of code, for example the CSS is embeded in the template so new users don't have to re-code the interface of OOo Site.

If we have a repository of code for Javascript we in theory provide more tools for webdevelopers across the project.

For example I am looking for a banner randomizer, now, I have to install it and configure it so it can run properly in es.openoffice.org, however if there was a repository already I could just link to it and have it available in less time.

Since this is a web-developement proyect it makes sense to provide this tools for the OOo web mantainers.

You can see public (advertisement driven) repositories here:
http://www.bravenet.com/webtools/

And not fully open source but good enough repositories here:
http://hotscripts.com/JavaScript/Scripts_and_Programs/index.html

of course the problem with this is that we still need to download it, learn it, configure it, upload and run it. While if we already have it available on the site, and properly configured, then we can simply just link to it.

Unfortunately we can't get AJAX here working (no surprise here) in openoffice.org but still will be a good idea to have some kb about improving the sites.

Not sure exactly what you mean, Alexandro. Can you explain in greater detail?

Cheers,
Louis

AJAX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AJAX), is a JavaScript + XML framework which lets you display information from the backend without reloading the actual page. If you know or use the Gmail interface, you are using Ajax.

Since the page doesn't reload is faster to display information. If we have Ajax we could in theory present information faster and more user friendly. For example the distributor page will could greatly benefit from AJAX.

However SourceCast closed source won't let us access to the backend so we can't really have a database driven data.
