I think we should add to the ToDo a script repository where we could get Javascript and DHTML code to use across the site. I am looking for

I'm against using Javascript widely on the site. Basically I'm against
using Javascript in general on OOo. Unfortunately this is the only
technology we can use to build an easy to use (and more important: easy
to maintain) download-page) :-(

I have similar objections to Javascript. However, it is the technology we can use. We can urge people *not* to use it.

Okay... You know of course that OOo site supports javascript and it is used heavily by quite a few pages? These include the download pages.

Yes I know, however I asked for a repository of code, for example the CSS
is embeded in the template so new users don't have to re-code the
interface of OOo Site.

Again: I'd love to see the sites getting along without javascript.

Yes, but it's not likely that all will not use it.

For example I am looking for a banner randomizer, now, I have to install it and configure it so it can run properly in es.openoffice.org, however
if there was a repository already I could just link to it and have it
available in less time.

While I guess some image-randomizer can be handy in some circumstances, I vote against suggesting javascript for broad usage on the main pages.

As a compromise, I'd suggest stipulating the reasons why javascript is frowned upon but nevertheless offering some scripts that may help users. For about two years, we sort of prohibited javascript's use but stopped that when it was the best solution for the complexity of the download pages. I can envision others using that javascript--and others. But we can set limits and strongly encourage practices.

Is that better?
