It works, but why such a complicated JavaScript based implementation?

Why don't you turn those inner <ul>s with the details into <div>s or
<span>s and make the <a>s cover the whole inner part of the outer <li>s?
Like (simplified):
<ul>
<li>
<a>
<div>Windows</div>
<div>
</a>
</li>
</ul>
What you are proposing here is not posible, <div>'s (block elements),
can never live inside a <a> ... but that is easy to change... to <span>'s...
<a>
<strong>Windows</strong>
<span>All versions (>98), 93MB</span>

would then be a solution. But I really have other things to do now... go
change it if you want to : ) I do not think it is that important. Dough
Thompson's complaint should get some attention as well... so if you go
working on it, maybe you can deal with that as well.
