Just to clarify this point, OOoForum is not involved in the creation of
the new forums site. The effort was started by some members of the
forum based on (I believe) a perceived lack of admin support at
OOoForum. That problem has been corrected recently as Andrew Pitonyak
and John Vigor have been added as site admins. But I believe work on
the new site continues.

Personally, I would rather see the current incarnation of the forums
integrated into the OOo domain rather than starting from scratch.
Louis, we had discussed a while back making OOoForum more official by
making it available in the OOo domain. Not sure what happened to that
discussion but perhaps we need to revisit that?

While two forum sites wouldn't be the end of the world, I don't think
the OOo project should suddenly start steering users in one direction
based on some arbitrary preference.

Ed
