Hi Alexandro,

This design has the disadvantage that it looks completely different to the original and to most of the local pages.

Kay, you refer to Filip's mockup? Alexandro was critiquing.... and I think his points, about text, language, image, are good.

I am not sure that looking different on the homepage is a disadvantage, actually.

We should avoid to use a single face on the main page, it can be easily identified as politically incorrect. I am missing prominent pointers to the OO.o projects , to the My Pages and to the localized pages.

The point here is double: downloads and then information. Is there any reason to refer to "projects"? or "My pages?" There is a reason to refer to the idea of logging in, to be sure, but I disagree we want to make the homepage like the working pages. Indeed, I'd argue we want to do the opposite.

There is no pointer to the localized pages. We should also consider to add a pointer to document templates because this is what the many users are looking for and it has the advantage that more user returning to the page.

Hm. No, I disagree. We do want to have a support pointer, and that's exactly what Filip's page has. Kay, if we have too much information on the homepage it gets too cluttered. The Support page (or portal.ooo) can have that. But the homepage needs to be radically simple and direct, not cluttered.

When we are using screenshots as on this page, we should display the application window only and should use more than one platform, when more than one screenshot is used. One of the biggest advantages is the platform independence of OO.o.

I think generic independence is crucial, to be sure but I also don't think having screenshots actually helps. I think it does not. I am very much in favour of keeping it simple: our icon, period, maybe one other image. Too many images *confuses* attention. We want each and every image to serve a particular function and purpose and to limit those as much as possible. Other pages that explain more in detail can have those things.

Hello all,

I've tried to create a new mockup for openoffice.org. What do you think about this? As always, images can be changed, everything can be changed :-)

I am not a fan of the floating screenshots. I think they look jagged and not very clean for a frontpage. Is there somehting more recognizable that we can get in. Maybe just having the icons of OOo which are SVG so the clarity will be excellent.

Also from a marketing perspective is not good to have a frown face guy on the cover of the a product we want to sell people into. Usually smiling people is more recomendable. Maybe a face of a guy actually 'getting it' would be better.

Finally from an internationalization perspective, avoid having english text on graphics. This is not good idea if we want to have a similar page in other language. The text will become a big hassle to localize since is a bitmap as opposed of an actual source.

It's quite good but the images themselves seem to compete for eye attention. I'd suggest a stronger central image (for download), disappear the hapless man with the briefcase.

What about tabs? Do others have views?

Maarten, Kay? Cloph? Matthias?

Have a nice day,
