Yeah, mock-ups are a bit hard to decipher sometimes, especially mine =).
Would it help at all if I tried translating this design to HTML myself, so that
you could see the structure/layout of the page yourself?... If it would, let me
know and I'll whip something up.

Anything that is designed for the OOo site must consider future
maintenance, so, yes, I would try to mock it up in HTML and see how it
performs in a "reality" test. Artistic elements are great but not at the
expense of functionality and simplicity in my mind.
