Hi Ivan,
Bit of work of today, not tested in anything but Firefox @ Ubuntu 7.10 :o

zipped:

* The footer should now be flexible (i.e. for shorter pages, it will
always appear at the bottom of the screen). I have tested it in IE7,
Opera 9 and Firefox 2 on Windows XP. (the code used is similar to this
example:
http://www.themaninblue.com/experiment/footerStickAlt/good_example_short.htm)
I don't mind that too much, hacky JS is worse...
* Sun Microsystems & Collabnet logos are in the footer, as well as
more smallprint - now the footer is identical in content to the
current OOo website. It looks pretty condensed. Is there a possibility
that any of the footer content could be reduced?
Didn't tackle that, maybe place all in one <p>?
* odd 1px by 1px white dot removed from header image
* positioner changed to "your next productivity suite"
* tabs (Search | Change Language....) moved to the right and up slightly
I turned these in 'real' tabs
Some potential problems:
* the OOo logo is a transparent PNG (done mainly to make things
easier, i.e. updating both the background image and the icon for
special events/themes) - this could be an issue with IE6
We should make this a gif then... or a png with a background that
fits... (I don't like the activex control workaround... and gif is free
of patents nowadays)
* the footer-resize done above isn't utilizing any hacks to make it
work with IE6. Since I don't have IE6, I can't test this.
Nor can I.
* no tabs will be highlighted in the 'download' section (possibly
other action statement linked pages too if they don't have some nearby
equivalent in the menu)
Hmm... maybe home?
And finally, what needs to be done:
* tab interface needs to be added, or at the very least, a functional search box
Started that.
* could some experienced CSS'ers / people experienced with dealing
with the Collabnet system take a look at the CSS and HTML code and
make any necessary class name changes, image name changes, CSS
optimizations, etc? Download all the relevant files at
www.patentpending.co.nz/openoffice/openoffice.zip
Will try to do that. Please note that we need to use a bit of table
layouts to make sure old pages don't break.
* everything except the footer links and the first action statement
(linked to why.openoffice.org) are not linked in - I see this has been
brought up in the discussion, so whoever makes the decision can update
it or post where each link should point.
that's indeed still discussed...
Maarten, I tried moving the content right so that it was aligned with
the positioner and it looked bad to me - feel free to tweak the
design's margins/paddings since you probably know much more about grid
layouts than me (I know very little about them).
I liked actually what I proposed, but maybe people can compare this
quite extreme alignment with yours to judge
g.,
Maarten
