Hi Nino, Clayton, all,

Hmm... Nino raises a valid point; one solution might be to change the
'Go' button to be the 'Search' button and just use that (hiding the
'real search button) - this way wiki users could get the best of both
worlds - if what they type in is an exact match for a page, they will
be taken to that page. If not, they will be taken to a standard search
results page.

One problem with this would be with top-level pages like
wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Logo - if a user searches for "Logo"
and clicks a search button that is actually a Go button, they will
always be taken to the aformentioned page, even though they may be
looking for a completely different page - there are plenty of pages
with the word 'Logo' in their title or in the content body.

Alternatively, we could return to having both Search and Go buttons;
to an average user, the difference is not made clear, unless they
Google it. They might click either one and experience the same results
(being taken to a search page). The downside with this is that if we
move the search box to the header, an extra button positioned in that
way would add clutter and look odd.

Or, we could just keep the current status quo and have the 'Go' button
as a 'hidden' feature, activated when the [advanced] user presses
Enter (currently, the 'Go' button is set to display: none via CSS so
technically it hasn't been removed). This emulates the behavior of a
MediaWiki install, but reduces clutter. But the behavior is not made
very clear for advanced users.

The Search/Go buttons are a MediaWiki feature/quirk, and if people
have gotten used to using them (for very valid reasons), perhaps we
should just have them both in plain sight... but then I would suggest
clearly explaining the difference to all users on a 'Getting Started
with the Wiki' page or a 'tips and tricks' type page.
What do you think?

Regards,
Ivan.
