Your concern appears strange to me. You lose substantial functionality (for experienced users), in order just to not confuse new users. Is the wiki intended for new users only? Are you trying to keep experienced users out? Another lost functionality I just found: If a page exists with the exact name you typed into the search box, you can not accomplish an explicit text search for this word (i tried "faq"). Again it makes me think, that there is a hidden intention to confuse people ;-) At least I feel confused. So this may be one small piece of evidence, why there are so few active volunteers. Maybe they just find it boring to tilt against windmills...
