BTW I am not sure if I miss something but I havent seen any proposals
or tryouts.
Two proposals were made in this thread (see Goran's email dated 4 June
and my email dated 5 June) - I posted a summary to the branding list
with links. So far, the second option (adapting the header colors) is
preferred.

I was thinking on cleaning the site more, and have less
overal blue. This will help us get rid of the dilema of the background
on the header.

It would make the site more sober but I think that is the overal
intend of the new design. The Splashscreen also has no background
color.

I put a mockup here: http://alexandro.biz/try1.png
The contrast between the text inside the header and a white background
is too low and the S-curve really looks out of place by itself
I dont think I agree with that statement, it might look out of place
because we are used to seeing it like that. But I have use this for
headers by itself and look quite approriate. Look at
http://education.openoffice.org under the title of the project for
example.

I honestly don't think it works well on its own in any case, but
that's my personal opinion.

drastic changes would need to be made to make your proposal work. It
is also important to note that the minimalism present in 3.2.1 may be
temporary - when additional branding elements are added, things may
look a little different. I'd rather we keep the changes to a minimum
I am confused, on one side you want to keep changes to a minimum but
on the other side you acknowledge drastic changes are needed. So what
it's going to be?

Minimum now, drastic later. I'd like to keep changes to a minimum for
now while we still have the old design (between now and the time the
redesigned website goes live). I acknowledge that drastic changes are
needed because of the new branding, and hopefully the redesign will
address that. But that is (at least) a few months away, so we have to
figure out what to do in the meantime. My view is that we should not
spend too much effort on updating the website now when any changes
will be replaced by the redesign in a few months. I consider changing
the header color to white as quite significant, because it goes beyond
simply replacing one or two images. As I mentioned already, the poor
contrast it introduces is one area of concern. Another concern is that
it significantly changes the dynamic of the header (e.g. what happens
to the positioner? some NL projects that have customised positioners
might not be happy about that).

+ 1
I also assume that this change is only for a while. We can discuss about design improvements for future webpage designs, but right now we need a solution. I also think that by changing the header users wont necessary see the changes at first sight. So we have some time to do what you call the "drastic" changes. I welcome the discussions about the design, but I would like to see the same logo on the website and product as soon as possible, so that we don't confuse our users.
Btw, great to know we can easily change the design in the wiki, Clayton.

For further design discussions stay tuned on the branding list ;)

Regards,
Rosana
