I honestly don't think it works well on its own in any case, but
that's my personal opinion.

Minimum now, drastic later. I'd like to keep changes to a minimum for
now while we still have the old design (between now and the time the
redesigned website goes live). I acknowledge that drastic changes are
needed because of the new branding, and hopefully the redesign will
address that. But that is (at least) a few months away, so we have to
figure out what to do in the meantime. My view is that we should not
spend too much effort on updating the website now when any changes
will be replaced by the redesign in a few months. I consider changing
the header color to white as quite significant, because it goes beyond
simply replacing one or two images. As I mentioned already, the poor
contrast it introduces is one area of concern. Another concern is that
it significantly changes the dynamic of the header (e.g. what happens
to the positioner? some NL projects that have customised positioners
might not be happy about that).

I would expect that changing the colors in the header to align them
with the new logo will likely go unnoticed by most people, which is a
plus IMO. I'm not sure the same could be said about making the header
background color white. The S-curve was a mediator between the darker
blue of the header and the white of the content; making the header
white is a significant change because it changes the emphasis on
different elements in the header. The concentrated color draws
attention to a concentrated area on the page, which IMO is a negative.
Also, the S-curve is no longer a part of OOo's identity so it will
probably be deprecated with the redesign.

Regards,
Ivan.
