Subject: Proposal for xmlbeanscxx

This is a proposal for an xmlbeans subproject which should be discussed
here
and voted on at the xmlbeans PMC before going to the incubator for a vote.
Proposal to create a C++ version of the Apache XMLBeans project
Submission date: 15 May 2005, Tim Triemstra, Heidi Buelow (TimT @ RogueWave
dot-com, Buelow @ RogueWave dot-com)
Haven't been on the lists recently, but I just saw this proposal. Very
exciting.
I have a couple questions (forgive me if already discusssed; eyebrowse is
behind)
- I haven't seen the contriubted code; have any of the active xmlbeans
contributors seen any of the code? Mainly, my question is to understand
if somebody has assessed its applicability and similarity to the xmlbeans
approach.
- Have you found contributors outside rougue wave yet? That would be
healthy.
- I interested in how a C++ version would work - would it take basically
the strategy of generating C++ methods that cache values
based on pulling from a stored XML infoset? Or would you try to
find ways to avoid storing the infoset?
An example of what you have in mind (e.g., as how the generated code
might be structured) might help clarify.
I think the idea for a C++ effort is very cool, timely, and useful, and
I wish it all the success. If successful, it might be even more widely
useful.
Cheers,
David Bau
