Users who have not bought Growl wouldn't have a Growl listing in NC at all, so the concern here isn't going to happen. I'll reply to Peter with a full explanation from the person who wrote the integration, then I'll update the ticket on bitbucket to make sure that my last comment there is not ambiguous.
