Hi Dante, I don't think that you will have more performance problems with spool. It is much more efficient than file storing in either case. Ideally you could use an indexed fs like Reiser or Xfs, but it should run fine on ext3 as well. If it is a seperate partition you can disable logging if you get into trouble, or convert easily to ext2, without loss of data.
Thanks to Alej for the suggestions. Problem seems to be in storage subsystem. Of cource a memory corruption can originate at any part of the code. I will try with fakesmsc over the weekend. If valgrind doesn't get it, I will forward to the list.
