what specific use case -- or planned change -- is this addressing?
_my_ current usage doesn't seem to have an issue.
... depends on system's hardware. Those with amd and nvidia gpu will have much
larger initramfs.
fwiw, here, amdgpu _is_ embedded in initramfs
$ lsinitrd | grep amdgpu | grep module
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 214 May 14 2024
etc/modules-load.d/amdgpu.conf
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Sep 23 20:00
usr/lib/modules/6.16.10-200.fc42.x86_64/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5601872 Sep 23 20:00
usr/lib/modules/6.16.10-200.fc42.x86_64/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/amdgpu.ko.xz
but still is comfortably small
$ ls -al /boot/initramfs-6.16.10-200.fc42.x86_64.img
-rw------- 1 root root 72M Oct 11 12:25
/boot/initramfs-6.16.10-200.fc42.x86_64.img
which is ~ the largest on any of my Fedora boxes -- laptops, desktops, or
servers (only amd and intel gpus here, no nvidia)
