I am using (read trying to tolerate) the made of easy desktop environment :)
First of all, I had to do some trickery to correctly update the old Gnome2 environment, many libraries and old packages were left, I had to manually remove them and install some packages that were not pulled as dependencies with a normal: equo upgrade for example the gnome-core* ones. I guess this is normal as it is still testing. The most important thing that I have to signal is this one: ATI proprietary drivers and gnome-shell don't live good togheter, I have corrupted desktop, flickering issues, rendering problems, all sort of instabilities in the graphics level. I narrowed it down to the ATI drivers and to this bug report: http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=99 I think that Sabayon should not add Gnome3 until this bug is fixed, it makes the desktop unusable. Luckily the failsafe mode works, so if it really has to replace Gnome2, please make it automagically force the failsafe mode if the ATI proprietary driver is in use :) Another thing that I would like to share is some settings that makes Gnome3 a little more made of easy to me :P I found some interesting options in the Gnome Tweak Tool: 1) Desktop with icons toggle on the option: Gnome Tweak Tool -> File Manager -> Have file manager handle the desktop 2) Home and Trash icons on desktop toggle on the options: Gnome Tweak Tool -> File Manager -> Home icon visible on desktop Gnome Tweak Tool -> File Manager -> Trash icon visible on desktop 3) minimize and maximize on windows switch to All the option: Gnome Tweak Tool -> Shell -> Arrangment of buttons on titlebar 4) date on clock switch to on the option: Gnome Tweak Tool -> Shell -> Show date in clock I don't know if this is useful, it just makes Gnome3 so much better to me, so I thought you could consider adding this as a default configuration, if it looks good. I have to say, aside from the fglrx issues, it is very stable for being a testing environment, I am quite impressed.
