Does anyone have any insight into this problem? I can compile from
source if any has patches they want me to try out. The chip is the Radeon
Mobility 7000 IGP:

I'm trying to get the external dvi-d output on my IBM T30 via port
replicator to work with my 1600x1200 flat panel. I tried X 4.2 but there
was a lot of garbage on the screen. So I upgraded to X 4.3 and it's
better but still there are red and green dots in gradient areas. I tried
to take a screenshot but it was clean. IBM's website has this to say:

  TP A30, A31, T30 - Maximum Digital Video (DVI) Resolution is 1280 x
  1024 at 60 Hz

  Symptom
When attaching a Digital Flat Panel Display to the Digital Video
Interactive (DVI) Connector on the back of the Dock or Port Replicator,
running 1600 x 1200 resolution, video noise appears on the display.

  Affected configurations
  ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p and T30 computer systems external DVI
  Connector.

  Solution
Use 1280 x 1024 or lower resolution with the DVI Display.

  Additional information
DVI resolution higher than 1280x1024 is not supported on A30, A31,
  and T30 ThinkPads.

But this doesn't say explicitly that it's a hardware problem. The noise
isn't that bad. It's very very close but not quite. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

A program should be written to model the concepts of the task it
performs rather than the physical world or a process because this
maximizes the potential for it to be applied to tasks that are
conceptually similar and, more important, to tasks that have not
yet been conceived.
