There are alot of people who are just discovering pbuffers now. I would guess it would take years before superbuffers were widely used.
I would re-think that assumption. :) A *lot* of people have known about pbuffers but have intentionally avoided them. When superbuffers are available, they are going to jump all over it! Not only that, on Linux on the Nvidia drivers and the ATI drivers for the FireGL 1/2/3 cards (not the Radeon based FireGL cards) support it at all currently.
Since nobody supports superbuffers yet, I think we could probably re-visit this issue when it is available.
