It looks a lot like a deliberate, targeted exercise in shutting people up 
whilst also spreading FUD about our motives. We should get the pledgebank to 
fund the site after funding is pulled going now.

I would guess that - if the story is not actually invented out of whole cloth, 
which has to be a live consideration - they picked up a confirmation e-mail 
coming *in*. Presumably they filter incoming e-mail for spam, like everyone 
else in the world; sensitive topics, porno, foul language, and political 
unreliability are just more Bayesian filters to apply to the mail spool.
