In which case all of the journey set-up can be done once (and perhaps at a computer rather than when mobile), with a much simplified mobile app which allows the selection of one of a few pre-configured journeys and a 'start' and 'stop' button. Sure, this won't cover everyone. But I'm guessing it would engage enough people to start to provide useful data.
