Hi all, The cleverclogs Mike Rawlins of the PitsnPots blog ( http://pitsnpots.co.uk ) has just had a *splendid* idea for a volunteer-built mobile app/mobile website that would greatly improve FixMyStreet and possibly the quality of our streets, too. Best of all, it doesn't involve the need to understand or install our codebase.
The idea is this: a mobile app that tells people where the nearest problem is on FixMyStreet that is of status 'unknown' or 'not fixed', helps them navigate there, and then gets them to give an update - "fixed" or "still not fixed". You could then create a new cadre of FixMyStreet user who casually help out in areas by checking on other people's problems, even when (or especially) in areas the don't live in. And, of course, you could even have a league table of users to see who's most dedicated (the system could only let people score if their phone GPS suggested that they were indeed standing right by the problem). I reckon mySociety could probably stump up for a symbolic yearly prize for the person who did the most checking up on random problems, as well as a Coveted MySociety Hoodie for anyone who could build an App. What do you think? Anyone looking to polish/develop some mobile skills and make a difference to the public realm at the same time? tara, Tom _______________________________________________ Mailing list [email protected] Archive, settings, or unsubscribe: https://secure.mysociety.org/admin/lists/mailman/listinfo/developers-public
