Hi,

Recently, someone checked in a class 'Sitestat.java" in the core (ver 1.7). This class is an escaper which allows you to escape identifiers for sitestat counters (a utility from a dutch compaby taht allwos you to keep statistics on your site).

Personally, I find this too specific for the MMBase core, but others have different opinions on it. I don't see how we can make a proper, and clean, 'core' mmbase if we include all kinds of example code, especially if some of it is rather specific (even if it is used quite broadly in the Netherlands).

Hence, my question: what do we include in the Core?
Allowing a whole range of escaper code opens the door to other specific solutions and means that the MMBase Core becomes less what it is supposed to be (or at least how I envision it, which may ofcourse be totally wrong). I feel more for a 'utilities' or 'examples' application, where these tools could have a place. But I also know others don't and like to add as much as possible to the core to make it more useful.

What are other people's opinion on this?
