Lacking this, there is not a single MMBase release available at present,

I have to agree about the need for a change in the releasing...
In practise it seems to happen a lot that people are 'forced' to use either an cvs version of mmbase or a stable version but 'hack' some functionality from cvs into it to make it complete (the editwizards are of couse the most famous example). I think this hurts the credibility of mmbase as these kind of hacks can make it a bit less stable; not to mention very hard to upgrade later on. I can speak from experience on this matter because we recently took over the hosting for a large number of mmbase sites, almost all of which are early 1.5 cvs versions (some very old) and are almost impossible to upgrade without rebuilding the sites from scratch.
Instead of just complaining I'd like to help out as much as possible with this of course... I can at least help out some with things like bug testing or hunting bugs...

Regards,

Ricardo.
