I think we principally agree. But for me a committer is mainly some-one with
voting-rights. Putting things in CVS is merely a practical issue, which
happens te be a duty of committers.

The current status of 'developers' means actually nothing, only that you are
known.

I'm not sure we need a lot of official granularity in status. I very
leftishly am not against a very egalitarian community, in which everybody
principally has the same status, and only reality and informal rules
differantiates between people who actually commit in core, only in certain
parts of the CVS tree, or only use the voting right. It is complex enough as
it is, and we must distinguish between how-it-is from
how-it-should-ideally-be.
