In this case you should see question marks for the unknown characters,
because the conversion is done by java, and it produces those signs for
impossible conversions.

my_editors use UTF-8.

I think your problem is related to MS-Word. You wrote in a previous post that you had two offending characters.

I wouldn't be surprised if the three-dots-character used in Word is not present in UTF-8, the same may apply for the dash.
