I checked this, the old support classes do, indeed, not call preCommit() on insert.
The new storage classes do, though.
Id this somethign taht still needs be fixed?
I can't find if the preCommit() was ever called in the database insert() code before.
imho this was called from the old scan editors and was (bad design) never called from the core.
