I'll see if I can find a better solution but for now this works as a temporary fix.
Well, I found a better fix, but it requires an update of Dove.
Basically, what is needed that Dove passes additional information on the binary field (I went for 'size').
The wizard can then test whether a binary field had data by checking the 'size' attribute.
