Hi Inouk,
Now I managed to get the La Foneras (2.0g and 2.0n) both running with
the Huawei USB-3G-stick E169. I used the info of out communication
today
and the info at http://wiki.fon.com/wiki/FON2-Tweak-3G-Irish3
I proceed in the following procedure:
La Fonera 2.0g (firmware 2.2.5.0 rc5) or La Fonera 2.0n (firmware
2.3.6.0):
In the file /Apps/umtsd.lua
changed:
"OK \"ATD*99***1#\"\n"..
to:
"OK \"ATD*99#\"\n"..
changed:
-- some dummy data
local data = "/dev/ttyUSB0"
local cmd = "/dev/ttyUSB1"
to:
-- some dummy data
local data = "/dev/ttyUSB0"
local cmd = "/dev/ttyUSB0"
In the file /etc/config/umtsd
add:
config 'umtsdevice' 'option12D11001'
option 'vendor' 'Huawei'
option 'device' 'E169'
option 'data' '/dev/ttyUSB0'
option 'cmd' '/dev/ttyUSB0'
I manually entered my providers data:
Country: Custom Configuration
APN: a1.net
PIN: ****
Username: [email protected]
Password: ppp
DNS: 194.48.124.202
Use default DNS: enabled
Activate Hotspot: enabled
Then I plugged the stick to the router and rebooted.
Both routers automatically granted web access over 3G broadband :-)
Inouk, thanx again the help,
Kyros
PS: Both routers return to DHCP internet connection settings after
removing the USB-3G-stick (f2g needed reboot). So you have to manually
set other connection type again, old StaticIP, PPPoE or other settings
will not be reset.

Hello, you can try to change the ATD command in the Fonera. Once
dongle
is connected, edit /tmp/chat_umts and replace *99***1# by *99# save
and
try to dial.

Hi inouk,
unfortunately my Huawei E169 doesn't work either on both La Fonera
2.9
and 2.0n.
Settings:
Country: Austria
Provider: Mobilkom
APN: a1.net
user: [email protected]
password: ppp (in the La Fonera originally it's a preset value (by
mistake?) "pp")
pin: ****
DNS: 194.48.124.200 (in the La Fonera originally it's the preset
value
is "194.48.124.202")
Neither the firmware's preset values for Austria/Mobilkom work nor
manually inserted settings.
The device is recognized by the La Fonera but it never starts
dialing in
successfully.
The updated Ubuntu 9.10 can successfully use the device - it has an
additional value setting which is (dialing?)number *99# but I cannot
find a field in the La Fonera to add this.

Hello, could you tell us with which model of 3G dongles you're
facing
this issue?

I had great expectations of the new red-nosed image, but in vain.
It seems that some bug (present on both 2g and 2n) prevents 3G
internet
access via a (powered) hub.
We have been trying to solve it amongst users but until now in
vain.
There are no reports from people that succeeded with this
configuration
with other hardware.
I'm afraid it needs some attention from the real developers, and I
propose that it is given some urgence, as it totally blocks the
use of
all things that make la fonera interesting.

there are dmesg listings and logs.
