As I commuted into Manhatten as a passenger on a commuter bus into Manhatten
yesterday, Sept 11, 2001, I heard the following over
the bus radio:
"A Bomb - the World Trade Center just got hit by a bomb"
As we learned more about the situation, we actually debated about going into the city
for work that day. Even when we could see the
top of the Tower, trailing a plume of smoke miles across, we did not understand. When
we heard/saw the second plane we knew it was
terrorism. People still wanted to go into the city. The 'debate' almost turned into
a brawl and the driver started looking for a
state trooper to arrest some passengers. He insisted that bus policy forced him only
to stop at NY station. (Although he
eventually did offer to stop at Newark to let people off)
I was on a Wall Street bus, destined to travel right past the World Trade Center.
Once the tunnels were closed the bus turned around and I returned home in time to see
the symbol of Manhatten since my childhood
fall.
I had some strong opinions about aXon and forking and splitting the list.
Things are in a different perspective now, I hope we can all work together and build
something together that will be better then if
we all split up and work in opposition. aXon as a bleeding edge patch is great.
It was an easy choice for me to return home and not work that day, as a project
manager building new applications nothing I do is
critical in the day to day operation. My father built a contracting business in NYC
and refuses to leave his shop in china town due
to the looting and mayhem.
People are crazy, driving planes into buildings, almost coming to blows in a bus,
ripping jewlery off of people in the streets.
And I got upset over a few people taking some inititive and trying to code something
that they feel will be better then what exists
today.
Thank You,
