You're correct. I have no way of release knowing. Point is, this version
of Samba has been running on MANY production servers for some time now.

Mandrake 8.1 shipped with Samba 2.2.2 pre-release.

Who knows how long winbindd has been kicking around in someones sandbox, but
it certainly didn't find it's way into the public Samba 2.2.x codeline any
earlier than about July of this year. I played around with the source code
for samba 2.2.1 in June and winbind was no where to be found. Just going
off of what has been posted on the Samba mailing lists, I understood that
Winbind started in the Samba TNG codeline and was incorprated into the HEAD
codeline around March or so. I knew that Winbindd was being used by people
using CVS tags of Samba 2.2.x, but I didn't realize they were going to
release it to the general public as it is a real bugger to setup.
