Bruce,

I have only tested with SCSI based tape drives, so I cannot comment on the
IDE issues.

Arkeia 4.2 (which is the version I installed) ships with 4 linux RPMs: the
server, the client, and x based GUI, and a commandline control interface.
The server comes in two flavours, a full service (commercial) server, and a
"freeware" which will backup up to 3 linux boxen. There is also a Java GUI
which I run on a Windoze box which allows me to control the Arkeia
functions.

I have heard that the x based GUI has more features than the Java GUI due to
some Java restrictions, I have also heard that some people do not like the
file based cataloging (rather than database based cataloging ala Arcserve).

But it is a fully featured backup program complete with a record of what
files were backed up, to where.

>From memory there is some process to make an IDE tape drive look like a SCSI
drive is there not. Take a look at:

Arkeia asks you to connect to a rewind or non-rewind device ie: /dev/st0 or
/dev/nst0 for example.

Regards,

Hugh
