Oh yes, edge command line is very close to old tar. Type "edge" all by
itself and you will see.

No, In my current newbie status, I don't even know where to start on SME.

On my Unix customers, here is what I do on every new install:

1) Install OS
2) Install BackupEdge
3) Run an Edgemenu -> Master, to do an initial, virgin backup.
4) Run edgemenu and make disaster recovery disks.
5) Use Edgemenu to setup an automatic master, with bit-by-bit verify, every
weeknight.
6) Test the emergency disks by booting them and doing a verify on the
previous master.
7) Register BackupEdge so it don't expire in 60 days.

I have been doing SCO Unix servers many years, and what I have seen, this
formula can't be beat. I now tell customers, they should have a minimum tape
library of 32 tapes (DDS are cheap). I say number/label them D1-D20 for
Daily backups, and M1-M12 for monthly backups. This is terribly simple, not
perfect, buy there is beauty in simplicity - especially when you leave it in
the hands of an end-user ;-).

BackupEdge also prints a very nice backup/verify summary report that can be
emailed or printed on the printer of your choice. I make customers print
them.
