I buy Edge wholesale. I wasn't even aware what the suggested retail was. But
I will tell you, beyond any measure, when I have a mission-critical server
out there, the peace of mind and better nights sleep benefits far exceed
that cost.

I also fall, or lean heavily on the idea of "free". But we must keep in mind
that some things "free" just windup taking more time to
install/setup/configure/test.

A possible good example of value-added, I suspect, would be Darrell May's
value added versions of packages he has tuned/tested/bundled and sells. I
suspect purchasing that would save an installer a lot of *time* - the most
precious resource I have. But I find myself installing the "free" version of
twiggi as I type this ;-) I haven't tried Darrel's ports yet, but maybe in a
few days I'll wish I did, and will. In reality, value-added is the
foundation concept of SME server! I spent a couple of years using "free"
RedHat as gateways, after that experience, maintenance, chasing exploits,
etc, I realized it better to go with something like SME. Although I now
struggle with the apparent high price of full-blown SME - a barrier to
sales.
