BackupEdge has some very nice features but suggested retail is $300.
While I agree that this is not out of range for a commercial product, it
seems unnecessary.

While Arkeia has an arcane command prompt language, once the basics are
understood it can be templated like any other command prompt.  It is
also free for either commercial or non-commercial use. Limited only in
the number of servers that it can backup.  The entire product range is
available in the free form including robotic tape library support and DR
options.

I would encourage the devinfo community to take a serious look at
Arkeia.  Darrell May and I have a little Akreia project going and he has
made significant progress on enabling a server-manager panel to run it.

Perhaps this would be a good starting point for finishing that pkg for
e-smith.
