Did this before the break > and evaluate the rpm... Am doing this now > as I have set it up. I am very interested in your comments on this initial > rsback rpm. If after testing and evaluation you feel it is not valuable, > then simply say so... but at least take a look first. Has been "running" om 5.6b7 for a 2-3 weeks. HAs created daily and weekly backups with accurate historys. No data changed till a few days ago (added a couple of megs to admin home since then) du --max-depth 1 /backup 12164 /backup/daily.0 1136 /backup/daily.1 1076 /backup/weekly.0 1052 /backup/daily.2 1072 /backup/daily.3 1076 /backup/daily.4 1076 /backup/daily.5 1124 /backup/weekly.1 1088 /backup/weekly.2 20876 /backup so that's increased by a factor of 2 If all data changed every day... du -l --max-depth 1 /backup 12164 /backup/daily.0 10260 /backup/daily.1 10224 /backup/weekly.0 10224 /backup/daily.2 10220 /backup/daily.3 9288 /backup/daily.4 9284 /backup/daily.5 9248 /backup/weekly.1 9120 /backup/weekly.2 90044 /backup We would get a a factor of 9. So some where in between in the real world. > > If you find it looks promising but needs enhancement, GREAT! Let's work > together to add new features. > I suppose restore is from rsync commandline? 1. Looks great for small businesses with heaps of free disk space, which is common for us. It would need to be available to the admin thru samba (no probs there)for one off file/dir restore or from the server-manager.... 2. Or as a stand alone backup server where we are pulling the original file tree from another rsync capable or nix box 3. What about backing up W2K servers? SMBclient/FTP the W2K tree to the backup server and rsback from that? How difficult is it to get rsync running as a service on W2K? Would be quicker and cheaper than tape for recovery of one off files, etc. DR would be hotswaps or resident T-Drives.
