AFAIK, accessing via a samba share would break rights/ownership during any
copy and restore attempt. Therefore I feel it must remain a root login
command-line only access/restore solution.

Anyone that has spent the considerable investment in a W2K server will need
a disaster recovery backup solution suitable for W2K. Rsback/rsync is not
suitable for backup or restoration of the unique W2K 'internals' and
definitely will break W2K security.

A better choice for W2K is a certified W2K backup app.
