Greetings all.
I'm diving into SME6.0 and require access to SRPMS for development. I visited a few mirrors and did not find any. If Mitel has not already done so, would someone from Mitel please make the SRPMS available as soon as convenient. If they are available, would someone please assist me in pointing out where they may be found.
Thanks,
Darrell
For those of you who support Darrell's position of wanting MITEL to release SRPMs at the same time as development binaries, save yourself some time and trash this message. If you have followed the list for a while you already understand that MITEL does not release SRPMs at the same time as binaries.
I write this realizing that Darrell will not see it since he set his mail filters to remove me when I privately questioned his 'guerilla marketing tactics' to further his business agenda in the past.
Darrell has upset me again by asking one of his classic "Have you stopped beating your wife?" type questions to MITEL staff on this list. He has made his frustration with MITEL release policies well known and I believe he crosses the line in implying MITEL staff is somehow being not quite fair or is sloppy. I rather think the opposite as he has been slow to release his code under GPL in the past. His ability to divide and conquer by using an innocent sounding question as a club to beat MITEL (his commercial competitor) with their own list is legendary.
As Darrell is well aware, MITEL releases the binaries in advance of the source. I interpret this policy to be well within GPL because they are not selling it at this stage. As a practical matter, this speeds the delivery of the code for public test.
I believe MITEL does offer the source to anyone who requests it when they make a public release and sell it. I fear Darrell perpetually wants to be either first in line or further his standing as public criticizer rather than cooperate by sending bug reports as indicated by list policy. I think his request is motivated at division since he is well aware that all have equal access. As restated numerous times, the developer list as defined by MITEL is not the proper avenue for release policy change requests.
My apologies to those do disagree with my opinion and who support Darrell's indirect use of this list to publicly criticize MITEL policy at every opportunity.
My apologies to MITEL for a political response on a technical list. If anyone knows a way for an unmoderated list manager to constructively respond to digs at the sponsor, please let me know privately.
Does Darrell have an unmoderated public list where all can publicly post their views on his product?
Yes, I am questioning Darrell's motives here. Shame on me for being judgmental but I have long suspected such actions are not in the public interest but serve only Darrell's commercial interest.
Please respond offlist or at least off devinfo.
With Good Intentions, Paul
