Duh, should have read your *entire* email :-)

But on this point, it does highlight the fact that the more options you 
give the user, the more rope you give them with which to hang 
themselves.

I fear that your use of non-modal dialogs might constitute such rope,
and is somewhat contrary to the typical "Wizard" approach.  Would it be
possible to avoid them? Instead, providing the user with intelligent
defaults (since 99% of users just hit "Next".."Next".."Next".."Finish"
and expect something sensible to occur) which they can change if they
wish via radio buttons somewhere?  

If you really want to force them to make a conscious decision, then use a
radio button which only enables the "Next" button once the user has made
a choice.
