The wizard bitmap is 164x314 pixels by 16 colors (i.e. 4 bit). I don't know
how customisable the colordepth is but I would expect 256 colors (i.e. 8 bit
palettised) to work just fine too.

As for downloading the JRE - I am unable to test this as a fresh install at
the moment (unless I'm prepared to actually uninstall the preexisting JRE,
which I'm not) but the installer has all the same code as the previous one
to prompt the user to go to http://www.javasoft.com and download the JRE.
I've been assured that it works.

However if you would like me to augment this with an automatic installation
of a mirrored copy of Sun's JRE at freenetproject.org then let me know where
you would like the JRE to be uploaded to (to me snapshots would be a strange
place to put it) and I'll code it in. Note the JRE would only be downloaded
if:
a) No existing JRE installation can be found (by the original installer's
method which again I'm assuming works correctly), and
b) The user is running the installer in 'automatic' mode.

In 'custom' mode the user will be prompted if they would like to download a
JRE from freenetproject.org

NB the installer doesn't distinguish between 'automatic' mode and 'custom'
mode but it will shortly. There is currently only one installation method
which for the time being is a hybrid.
