OK as I understand it the question of read only nodes comes form some peoples 
desire to: 
1. Have their material readily available on Freenet, and not fall off the 
network.
2. Have their server load lessened by the mirroring capabilities of Freenet.
and 3. Choose separately whether or not they want to host other Freenet 
content on their server.

This can be addressed, whitout any losses in Speed, Security, or Anonymity 
(Including for the person hosting the content.)

That will enable any node to host it's own content and insure it is 
permanently available on the network. If they do not want to have other 
content in their store, they can simply set their configuration to never 
redirect the source of a request to it self, and so will appear as though 
they were a transient in all other aspects.

I would very much like to see this implemented. However it is not going to 
happen until someone ether volunteers to do it, or is willing to help me, as 
I don't know Freenet code well enough to implement anything this invasive. 
Alternately if you can't code you could always pay Toad to do it, I would be 
willing to contribute a modest sum.
