I do _miss_ the barcode -- but doesn't the global estimator graph on servlet/
nodestatus/nodestatus.html accomplish basically the same thing? If so, it 
should be possible to take that graph, make it 1D, and scale the values so 
that the lowest becomes black and the highest white. How much work would that 
be? Not that I'm saying it should take priority over anything, but it was a 
nice anyone-can-understand-this graph, and the animated version was l33t.
