Correct - the speed with which the requested data is returned is the information 
passing back to the requesting node.

Which is why I believe the specialisation is picked based on the Node reference, or 
some other globally unique and agreed upon, value. Therefore, all nodes immediately 
know what the specialisation is, because they all calculate it based on the same value.
